February 23 Scout Leaders District MeetingA reminder that the Don District Scout Leaders Meeting has been changed from the 6th March 2008 to the 13th March because it clashes with The 1st Aid course being run by Peter Blakemore. The meeting will be hosted by Matt Hardman at 33rd Lane End, Chapeltown HQ, (map enclosed below) and will start as normal at 7.30pm. February 18 Don District Leaders WeekendDon District Leaders Weekend was held in the picturesque (I know Stockport and pictureesque in the same breath) of Abney, once found (lucky enough the local Pubs seemed to know where it was) the games commenced from pass the parcel through flower sweat bobbing, freezing spoons on strings (frozen specially by our loving District Staff) to late night twister and an early (cough) bed before being cooked breakfast by the spoon freezers, then setting of to Albert Dock in Liverpool where we joined 7,5002 Brownie (there were 7,5003 but one fell in) multi coloured hats (fell into Jim's pocket that is) for a trip round the Maritime Museum, a try out of the Real Ale Pubs (thanks to Meat's Real Ale Guide 2006), Lunch in the sun trap of the dock and then a Ferry Across the Mersey with 7,499 Brownie's all lining up and blocking the bar. There was a definite list to starboard and aft (the blunt end Sylvia) which is where the leaders sat. Once we found our land legs it was then off to another pub or two before emptying the Chinese Buffet to crys of Duck's off, luckily they fetched some more. Back to Abney Hall to dvd's and quizes. Another wonderful Don District DC team fry up before a local treasure hunt in the grounds of Abney Hall, returning for sarnies and then to finish off a trip to the unique under ground caves and air raid shelter in Stockport. Thanks to the District team who worked tirelessly to provide a fantastic weekend for everyone. Check out the photo's below; February 13 Indoor Cooking Competition - 1st MarchThe 2008 Indoor Cooking Competition will be held on 1st March at the 82nd Scout HQ on Burncross Road and will be open to Patrols of 4 who will cook a fish dish main course and a choice of dessert for a budget of £8. Leaders will be required to judge the competition, in return will receive tea and coffee on tap. The HQ will be open from 9.30am and cooking will commence at 10am with a Noon finish. Please email or contact Steve Clayton with Team numbers from each Group. The attached form below can be down loaded for use. To clarify teams above 4 are allowed (4-6 an ideal number) but the teams must provide a dish for teesting for the judges and 4 other meals for eating themselves. We have followed this principle for a few years now so that Scouts can join in rather than be precluded from the event. Similarly teams of under 4 are allowed but the same number of dishes must be prepared. Update: Teams entered to date are 32nd 1-2 teams, 33rd 1 team, 82nd 3 teams, 231st 1 team. Please let Steve know if you have a team you want to enter. STOP PRESS 32nd have confirmed 1 team, 76th are entering 1-2 teams, unfortunately we will be missing usual combatants 61st who have their birthday Campfire and 105th who sadly hadn't received the date change.
