    Eight Packs took part, making 13 Teams.  62 Cubs entered but a couple were missing on the day.  Needed to run Heats for all but the 8yr. old races.  This left time for only one Fun Event, the “Reef Swim”, again two Heats and a Final.  Trying to fit in another Fun Event would have given very little time for the Splash Session, which all the Cubs (and some Leaders) really enjoy.

    All the Cubs were very well behaved, did their best and appeared to have a really good time.

    Trophies as follows:-

    Individual Championship Trophy:            1st       Jack Smith (33rd)

                                                              2nd       Daniel Harris (231st)

                                                              3rd       Jacob Crofts (93rd)

    Relay Team Trophy:                              1st       61st *

                                                              2nd       32nd Red

                                                              3rd       82nd Red

    Gala Team Trophy Joint Winners:          1st         33rd Red & 93rd **

                                                              3rd       82nd Red
    Fun Trophy  (amended 24/5/08)            1st       33rd Red

                                                              2nd      32nd Yellow

                                                              3rd       82nd Red

    *     this was later disputed by 32nd Yellow as they thought they had won it but in fact they had been      disqualified for setting off too early on the third length. Must look at a way to inform disqualified teams at future galas to avoid this disappointment.

    *     at Gala, Trophy awarded to 33rd Red, 2nd Place to 93rd, but on later checking score sheet an error had been made, highlighting that this was in fact a Joint First Place.  Teams have been notified.

    Medals were again given to the winners of the age-based races and the Individual Championship winner.  Medals, Trophies and Certificates were presented by Jim Carroll & Andrew Papka.  The Cubs who came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age-based races and in the Individual Championship also received a certificate.  All entrants were given a “Joining In” certificate and a lolly pop at the end of the Gala.

    Thanks also expressed to Chapeltown Baths for hosting this event and for the raffle prizes.  I would also like to thank the individuals who provided other raffle prizes, you know who you are.

    Once again, I can’t finish without thanking the Fellowship and other officials who helped on the day.

    As always, they did a grand job, playing a huge part in the success of this event.  A special Thank You must go to Pat & Howard Swinburn who, despite having another commitment that day, still managed to offer assistance prior to the event.

    Yours in Scouting,

    Sandra Harrison - Organiser.

    Leader Training

    Stewart Butler held a Training Assessment Day at Hesley Wood for those who needed help, advice or Modules signing off towards their Leader Training and Wood Badge. Training had almost ground to a halt within the District but with 10 Leaders using the Day to help them complete their Leader Training Stewart said "This has been a worth while day and we will repeat it soon for those who couldn't make it today".

    Training is now the responsibility of each Leader to make sure they complete their own Training and this should be done within 3 years of a Leaders appointment to that role. If you are not sure how to progress and complete your Training speak to Stewart who will help you every step of the way. Also speak to the other Leaders around for help especially your Section Leader, GSL, ADC, DC etc who will all be willing to help you complete the all important Modular Training Programme, much of which can be completed online using your every day skills used to fulfill your roles within your group.

    Indoor Cooking Competition

    The Indoor Cooking Competition was held on the 1st March at the 82nd HQ with 7 teams competing with teams from 32nd, 33rd, 76th, 82nd, & 231st. This Competition has produced a high standard of quality over the last few years and this year was no exception with once again food produced that could be served in a restaurant. The criteria was a fish dish and a dessert of the teams choice. Because fish is not usually on a Camp menu this gave the Scouts the opportunity to cook something new. Woks, frying pans and steamers were all used to produce these culinary fishy delights. From salads to boiled potatoes through rice accompanied various fillets of fish on to the plate. With an open choice of dessert jellied fruits, banana splits and other creative desserts were made. The dessert that stood out the most was the cheese cake decorated with a fleur de lys in chocolate - yummy. Marks were given for hygiene, food preparation, food quality and cleanliness amongst others. The standard was so high there were only 4 points separating the top 5 teams

    Thanks to all the Leaders and Young Leaders Nick and Logan for acting as Judges and made some of the following comments;
    Bob " There wasn't a bad meal amongst them"
    Logan "I don't normally eat fish but.........."
    Shaun "We should just get them to make these delicious sweets"

    Well done to all our Gourmet Chef Teams and the results are as follows;
     1st     82nd Wolf
    2nd     32nd
    2nd     231st
    4th     82nd Tiger
    5th     33rd
    6th     76th
    7th     82nd Fox
